This was the first novel I read for the year. Yeah, I know that’s really sad, but I could not care less. I took a recent trip back home to Louisiana to visit family and while I was there, my grandmother gave me two books to take home. My grandmother is most definitely the reason I love reading. Shes always reading books and trying to pass them off to me. I was an extreme bookworm as a kid. I was constantly trying to escape my reality, and if you can relate, you definitely need to check out this book.
I’ll start this review off by saying that if you’re not interested in the fantasy scene, this book is not for you. You’ll get major dungeons and dragons vibes while reading. I however am a fucking nerd, so I was excited, and my attention was immediately grabbed. Let’s get into it.
This book was written by a resident of my hometown so I’m happy to promote him and get his work out to the world. The book is actually based in my hometown of Kinder, Louisiana. The introduction of the twin protagonists Tim and Tom show them in the small town before they find themselves falling into a hole that leads to the magical world of Canaan.
Lormand’s story follows the quest of the twins with the legendary wizard, Zack Guhi, to find a magical stone that will help them fight in a battle against evil.
The only complaint I have about the book is that there are TONS of characters mentioned. So, if you’re reading multiple books at once it might be hard to remember every character in The Secret Hole. This is honestly the only complaint I have. It is very easy to read and full of entertainment. It switches POV from character to character, and that is my favorite way to read books.
The world that Lormand has created is absolutely beautiful. From the creatures to the landscapes, his descriptive imagery will have you fully enveloped into the world of Canaan. There are tons of
wacky characters, humor, and fighting. I enjoyed this book so much that I finished it on our flight back to Colorado in one sitting. I thought it was too good to keep to myself. If you’re interested in the fantasy genre, support Louisiana writers and grab a copy.
