A Haunted House 1 & 2 (2013-14)

Can you use gost in a sentence?

These movies were obviously my pick.

I wanted a funny movie to watch that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and these movies hit the nail on the head.

The first installment is a spoof of paranormal activity for the most part with other horror elements like exorcist thrown in for more comedic effects.

Our cast for the first movie includes Marlon Wayans as our lead, coupled up with Essence Atkins as his supporting lead role. We get surprise appearances by other big names like David Koechner, Nick Swardson, and Cedric the Entertainer.

This first movie’s plot starts off like paranormal activity. Atkins character, Kisha, moves into Wayans character, Malcolm’s, home. Shortly after she moves in, there is evidence of a ghost in the house.

The rest of the movie follows Malcolm and Kisha exhausting every option to get rid of their ghost problem.

This is a SPOOF movie, meaning that a lot of the comedy is overdone. Extended bits are prevalent, but there are TONS of other comedic moments throughout the first movie that will make you laugh out loud. I love this movie because of the camera POV and the characters are very authentic and raunchy. The story line is somewhat believable with twists throughout that will keep you second guessing the ending.

Moving on to the second movie.

The second installment is a spoof of multiple movies including Sinister and Anabelle. I actually enjoy the second one more than the first. I think that the second one is funnier because of the multiple plotlines they put, and the casts really gave it their all.

The cast is different in this movie as well. Waylans character, Malcolm, returns but is joined by his new co-star playing his wife, Jaimie Pressly. Pressly’s performance helped sell the comedy in this movie. I think her and Waylans had great chemistry that improved their comedic value.

Some of the cast from the first movie reappear in this installment as well, like Malcolm’s cousin Ray Ray, played by Affion Crocket. Also, Cedric the Entertainment revives his role as Father Williams. But we do have quite an influx of new cast including Gabriel Iglesias (Fluffy) and Ashley Rickards (From Awkward).

The second film has so much going on, considering it’s spoofing multiple movies, but I don’t think the comedy was lacking at all in this sequel. If anything, I felt like they were bringing in more jokes and opportunities to make you laugh.

So, if you’re scared to watch real horror movies but want to see some jump scares and laugh a lot, maybe give these movies a try. Alcohol also helps.
