I’m getting married in seventeen days. With that being said, I’ve been going back and watching tons of wedding movies I enjoyed growing up. I figured it would be fun to watch an older rom com that is probably my absolute favorite for all time.
I love this move for multiple reasons. Number one, this movie has sentimental value to me. I remember watching this one with my mom a lot and always laughing. Number two, this movie is hilarious. I know I say that about a lot of movies I review, but this one is downright hilarious.
The movie follows the newlyweds, Tom Leezak (Ashton Kutcher) and Sarah McNerney (Brittany Murphy) in an out of order story following their European honeymoon.
By out of order, I mean the movie begins with an opening shot of tension between the two of them after returning from their honeymoon. Once it’s clear that something occurred during the honeymoon that has led to separation and hostility of the couple, the movie flashes back to the beginning of their relationship to set the context of what happened.
The plot of the movie is following a “star crossed lovers” trope as Tom is an average radio host and Sarah is the daughter of a wealthy family out of Los Angeles. Despite the polar opposite worlds that the two come from, their chemistry is unbreakable, and they decide to get married. Following obvious opposition disguised as support from Sarah’s family, the two go through with the wedding and go on to honeymoon in Europe.
I won’t give too much away about the honeymoon except that everything that could possibly go wrong, goes wrong from the moment they get on the airplane.
The reason I love this movie so much is because the chemistry between Kutcher and Murphy is so believable. They play the newlywed couple so well with their cute banter and inside jokes. I believe the two were actually dating when this movie was shot, and you can tell. Combine the chemistry with both actors comedic timing and hilarious script delivery, and you have this sick rom com.
This movie is currently streaming on Hulu but I own it, *dusts off shoulder*.
