Pierce Brown ( 2015 )

What a start to the New Year. This year I wanted to focus on reading more for pleasure and delving into genres I haven’t experienced much of.
Fantasy it is.
I started the Red Rising series last year and it’s been one hell of a ride. I’d consider it a mix of science fiction and fantasy instead of fantasy solely.
Golden Son is the second installment. It follows the protagonist Darrow, after his time at the Institute. In this book we follow his journey, set two years after declaring allegiance to House Augustus and to serve as a lancer under the ArchGovernor. After disappointing the ArchGovernor in a battle of the Houses Bellona and Augustus, the ArchGovernor wishes to abandon Darrow and leave him with no protection against those who wish him harm.
This would derail his original mission, of overthrowing the high governing Golds for the resistance group, Sons of Ares.
As Darrow scrambles to find a sense of belonging in this new world, he has to look within himself and discover if he is strong enough to carry out his original mission. If he really is the chosen one.
This book will have your attention from the beginning to the very last page. Brown has created such a complex world that Darrow has to inhabit and infiltrate to destroy who governs it from within. It’s complex, heartbreaking, lore-full, and breathtaking.
Just hold on tight and hold your breath. This one is beyond wild.
