I’m lucky enough to remember seeing the original movie in theatres back in 2003.
Since then, I can honestly say Freaky Friday is one of my comfort movies. It’s a perfect mix of nostalgia and feel-good vibes in a time capsule of the early 2000’s, (arguably the best time period ever).
Freakier Friday takes place in the present with continuation of the original characters navigating their new challenges in life. Anna (Lohan) is a single mother who works as a manager for a pop-star. The movie kicks off as she falls in love with a British widow that is also a single parent.
The main conflict is after the wedding, Anna and her fiancé plan to move their family to London. Anna’s daughter, a California native, is opposed to her life changing so drastically.
The night of Anna’s bachelorette party, the family runs into a psychic, and the movie kicks off from there.
In this age of sequels this movie checked off my list of the items you need to be successful.
In my opinion you need to have returning characters from the original. This movie brought back tons of the original cast members along with some new faces and amazing side characters.
Sequels need references to the original. In this case, the references were mixed upon being subtle and big. The subtle references were heart-warming for the true fans that binged watched the original.
The pacing was great. It was easy to follow the plot and once the “switch” happens, the movie just crescendos into comical chaos. I have to hand it to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan who showcased some phenomenal acting throughout the film alongside their younger co-stars.
It was definitely a feel-good movie and you can tell the target audience wasn’t necessarily children, it’s the millennial adults that loved the first one.
The soundtrack was spectacular, mixing older 2000’s hits to bring that nostalgia vibe up to the surface.
This was the best sequel I’ve seen in some time.
Go watch it on the big screen to get the full experience.
Alright Pink Slip, the stage is yours so take us (me) away XD
