Stephen King (2014)

It’s still spooky time and I absolutely love October. Fall is such a great time for me. I’m in good spirits for most of the season and my productivity levels are higher, hence this post.
I wanted to read a spooky book for the month and I’m lucky enough to have a best friend to send them to my doorstep.
This is my first Stephen King book that I’ve read.
Mr. Mercedes is a crime drama thriller based in 2009-2010. The story follows a retired detective, battling boredom and depression. He is contemplating suicide when the killer from an unsolved mass murder sends him a letter challenging the detective to catch him.
What follows next is a wild ride from various perspectives of multiple characters.
King does an excellent job of imagery and storytelling. His characters are complex and deep. They really come to life while reading the novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though I felt it had a somewhat slow start. Once you grasp the characters, the book shifts into full gear and it’s a crazy ride.
I found out after completing the book that it’s part of a three-book series, The Bill Hodges trilogy with a TV adaptation.
It was a great read for October.
Thank you, Scott, for the book! (and the other three you’ve sent so far)
I’ve got a lot of reading to do.
